Building strong neighborhoods and healthy communities

At an early age, Rick learned the importance of giving back to the community from his mother, Stella. Rick volunteered as an alter server, a lector and worked at Immaculate Conception Church to help pay for his school tuition. Stella and his father Robert raised their four children, teaching them compassion for others and to support neighbors in time of need.

Rick graduated from Albuquerque High School and received his BA from the University of Albuquerque in Urban Development and Business Administration. Realizing the need of families struggling with drug addiction, Rick chose to mentor youth, working his way up to a program administrator and a licensed therapist and drug counselor until his retirement from the Department of Psychiatry at UNM. Throughout his life, supporting families has, and continues to be, his passion.

This commitment to families and community followed him in his retirement and he now chairs three behavioral health committees in Bernalillo County, advocating for services and resources for those most in need.

Rick has been an avid motorcyclist since he was 13 and continues to enjoy the open roads of New Mexico.

Rick and his wife Bernadette raised their two boys in downtown Albuquerque and are now enjoying two grandchildren.
