Rick Miera has worked as a therapist, drug counselor, and program administrator for over 40 years working primarily with young adults and at-risk populations. Rick is also a successful small business owner. As an elected leader for 24 years, Rick forwarded an education agenda, promoting access to a high-quality education for all of New Mexico’s youth and protecting our public education system from corporate privatization.

  • Served as Coordinator of the drug/alcohol program at the University of New Mexico’s Department of Psychiatry, Bernalillo County Mental Health Center
  • Licensed alcohol/drug counselor and former Director of Ayuda, a drug-counseling program and mental health facility serving Juveniles in Bernalillo County.
  • Served as a 12-term New Mexico State Representative for District 11, representing the downtown corridor of Albuquerque
  • Served as Co-Chair of the DWI Oversight Committee
  • Former Chairman of the House Education Committee and the House Labor and Human Resources Committee
  • Served as Co-Chair of the Legislative Education Study Committee
  • Former House Majority Leader
  • Former Member of the Legislative Jobs Council
  • Participates on the National Council of State Legislatures
  • Recognized and involved nationally for his work on educational equity, juvenile justice and health care access issues
